What is SFI Certification?

SFI Certification allows companies to develop economically viable products while also promoting ethical and responsible forest practices, boosting trust among stakeholders, as well as guaranteeing legality of timber. The Certification encourages sustainable forestry practices that conserve biodiversity, water quality and wildlife habitats as well as species at risk, and forests that have extraordinary conservation value.

They work together with local forestry professional and professional associations, Universities, government agencies, universities and conservation groups, and landowner groups. Further, they gather a variety of others to advocate for SFI guidelines as a method to expand the scope of responsible forest management and to make the ground.

SFI Certification Process:

  1. Apply for Certification: Representatives of your forest management operation fill out an application.
  2. Audit Proposal: We examine the application and then prepares an estimate, including costs and a timetable for the process of evaluation. The applicant is then able to sign an order for work and the certification process starts.
  3. On-Site Audit – Stage 1: Assessment teams conduct an initial audit to examine the management system of the applicant and procedures, processes and stakeholder data to determine the suitability of the applicant to undergo Stage 2 of the audit.
  4. On-Site Audit – Stage 2: Our team reviews the effectiveness, as well as the efficiency, of implementation of the applicant’s system for managing its forest. 
  5. Certification Decision: Our SFI Certification committee examines the report of assessment and decides whether or not it will approve the certificate. 
  6. If approved, a certification is granted for a period of 5 years with the possibility of annual surveillance audits.

  1. In order to be deemed as an SFI Certified Logging Professional, one must pass the required courses and show proof of present First Aid or CPR certification.
